Specifically, Janelle has a professional background in apparel manufacturing and production, with a specialty in pattern making. She is based in San Diego, California, which is her hometown and favorite city.

Sewing since the age of 17, Janelle holds a degree in Fashion Design from Palomar College located in North County San Diego. While at Palomar College, her core schoolwork included Advanced Sewing, Fine Dressmaking, and Tailoring under the tutelage of her friend and mentor Marcia Roberts. During her second year in fashion school, Janelle met Bridgitte Shillig, who was the instructor for flat pattern making and computer-based pattern creation. After meeting Bridgitte, Janelle decided that the technical and problem-solving nature of pattern making was the direction she wanted to pursue in the fashion industry.

In 2013, Janelle began her career in the apparel manufacturing industry in North County San Diego, first as the primary designer and pattern maker for a children's UV-protective apparel manufacturer that boasted an in-house sewing team. While at this company, Janelle gleaned knowledge of hands-on computer pattern making, materials sourcing, e-commerce, and working with both domestic and foreign sewing factories. This experience made her a desirable candidate for a cyclist apparel startup in the same city, where she was brought on as an assistant pattern maker, eventually gaining the trust of the owner and general manager to eventually fill the role of primary production pattern maker. In this position, Janelle worked with a sewing and production team of twelve individuals, working together to develop prototypes and final production patterns for the Wattie Ink line of swimsuits. This swimsuit line was developed fully in house at the Vista, CA factory and is manufactured there as well.

In 2016, Janelle began to envision a new role for herself in the world of sewn products. Working for small business entrepreneurs for three years, Janelle began to dream of a way to incorporate her knowledge and talents for sewing with her passion to teach and empower others. With her good friend Eva, she began brainstorming the possibility of developing a "sewing school" that would help democratize creative arts through practical instruction that will help new sewists and creators get the results they want faster.

dear daydream design and sewing studio is in its nascent stages, but we hope you will join Janelle on this journey of creating more beauty, together.
